With the aim of bringing in amendments to the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Law, No.1 of 1975 the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) held a three-day roundtable discussion on 14^th, 15^th and 16^th of March, 2018 at CIABOC.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) as a part of its effort in combating corruption held a two day workshop on 12^th and 13^th of March, 2018 at Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo. The workshop based on the theme “Asset Disclosure and Conflict of Interest as Measures to Enhance Integrity in the Public Sector” was a joint effort of CIABOC, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Stolen Assets Recovery Initiative (StAR), World Bank (WB).

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have apprehended the Inspector of Seeduwa Police Station on 13.03.2018 for accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000/- and a bottle of Vodka to make necessary arrangement favoring a complainant by arresting suspects of a complaint made to the Crime Division of the Seeduwa Police Station. 

Principal convicted for accepting a bribe of Rs.40,000/- to admit a child to the school.

A Sub-Inspector served as the OIC – Crime Division of the Police Station – Mahabagewas arrested on 05.03.2018 by Authorized Investigation Officers of CIABOC when obtaining a bribe of Rs.8,000/-subsequent to thereceipt of Rs.2, 000/- of the originally solicited amount of Rs.10, 000/- to take necessary arrangements to release an apprehended vehicle from the courts which was driven by the complainant with fake number plates, counterfeit money and 03Kg of white-sandalwood.

The authorized Investigation Officers of CIABOC have apprehended an Industrial Administrator attached to the Dehiwala - Mt.Lavinia Municipal Council on 28.02.2018 when obtaining a bribe of Rs.4,000/- from the complainant who serves as a Labourer of said Municipal Council, in order to make arrangements to draw his overtime payments for month of January smoothly, without any obstacles.

The authorized Investigation Officers of CIABOC have apprehended the Assistant Superintendent of Police – Wennappuwa, named Gangaharalalage Daya Deshapriya Jayathilaka Bandara on 27.02.2018 in front of a decoy of the Commission when receiving a bribe of Rs.30, 000/- which has been reduced from an originally solicited amount of Rs.40, 000/- payable monthly from a Medical Health Massage Center in Wennappuwa Police Division in order to smoothly run said business without any obstacles.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had filed 04 cases at the Chief Magistrate’s Court against former Chairman of Warakapola Pradeshiya Sabha, Bope Arachchige Chandana Keerthisiri Wijethunga.

Former Technical Officer of Thanamalwila Local Council pleaded guilty.
