The Colombo High Court, on 26.08.2024, delivered a two year’s rigorous imprisonment, suspended for 15 years to Pradeep Upul Kumara, a resident of Badalkumbura Dodangahadura, for offering a bribe of Rs. 5,000/- to a public servant for abstaining from taking legal action against him for the offence he committed in Ethimale.
The Colombo High Court sentenced former Minister of Disaster Management A. H. M. Fowzie on 27.08.2024 to two years of imprisonment and suspended it for 10 years. The sentence was given for using a Toyota Land Cruiser worth Rs. 19,500,000 belonging to the Disaster Management Center for his personal activities and for obtaining Rs. 1,073,334.93 from the Ministry for its maintenance.

A person attempted to bribe a Police Sargent pleaded guilty in Chief Magistrate’s Court was sentenced 1-year rigorous imprisonment. The ruling was suspended for 5 years and imposed a fine of Rs.5000/- in default 1-month rigorous imprisonment was imposed. The verdict was declared in 2019.12.03.
Police Constable (PC43903, Dompe Police Station), Jayawardana Mudiyanselage Nimal Ratnayaka resident of No.165 D, Belummahara, Polhena Junction, Delegoda, pleaded guilty on 01 to 08 counts of the indictment served against him by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000/-, the balance amount of the total bribe of Rs.10,000/- solicited from the complainant, Withanage Dinesh Chandana resident of No.320, Kumbalvilawatta, Dompe to refrain from taking legal action against the offence of possessing of cannabis with the complainant.
