Grama Niladhari and Sergeant arrested in the raids conducted in Jaffna and Kinniya

Based on complaints made to the Commission, Investigation Officers arrested a Grama Niladhari and a Sergeant in raids conducted in Jaffna and Kinniya on 29th May 2025. Their details are as follows.

  1. Based on a complaint made by a resident of Jaffna, a Grama Niladhari of the Jaffna Divisional Secretariat (Jaffna town – East) was arrested over allegations of accepting a 128 GB pen drive (valued Rs. 4,000/-) from the complainant in exchange of placing his signature to the application the Jaffna Divisional Secretariat issued to cut down three coconut trees in his residence. Accordingly, the arrest was made at around 11.27 a.m. at the relevant Grama Niladhari Office. The suspect is to be produced before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court.
  2. Based on a complaint made by a resident of Kinniya, a Sergeant of the Kinniya Police Station was arrested over allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000/- (ten thousand) from the complainant for abstaining from taking legal action against the complainant’s son for riding a motor bike without license and against the complainant for giving him to ride the motor bike. Accordingly, the arrest was made at around 3.52 p.m. near the Kinniya Buhari Junction. The suspect is to be produced before the Kinniya Magistrate’s Court.
