Former Chairman of the Ceylon Fishery Harbours Corporation arrested over corruption allegations

Former Chairman of the Ceylon Fishery Harbour Corporation, Upali Liyanage, was arrested by the Commission’s Investigation Officers at 8.50 a.m. on 27th June 2025, in connection with a corruption investigation. The Chairman has caused a loss of Rs. 26,230,498.62 to the government by violating the procurement procedures in approving the unsolicited proposal submitted by the Korean Company, Seo Woo Co. Ltd., for mining and purifying sand in fisheries harbour basins to be sold in the local market, and by hiring the dredger “Weligouwawa” belonging to Ceylon Fishery Harbour Corporation, to the same company without a proper contract.
