Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the Office of the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuwara Eliya and a Woman Police Sergeant attached to the Office of the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Kalmunai, in connection with an ongoing investigation.

The investigation was initiated following the receipt of information regarding the solicitation and acceptance of bribes from an unmarried Police Constable (PC) attached to the Vellaveli Police Station in exchange for making the recommendation to the Superintendent of Police of the Batticaloa Division for the said PC to obtain approval to report for duty from his residence. The ASP was arrested at the Office of the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuwara Eliya, at approximately 10.50 a.m. on January 5, 2026, on allegations of soliciting and accepting a mobile phone, other items and a sum of Rs. 72,000 on multiple occasions. The female Police Sergeant was arrested at the Office of the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Kalmunai, at around 3.00 p.m. on the same day on allegations of soliciting and accepting a mobile phone and other items for the same incident.
