Honorable high court judge ordered the accuses to pay Rs: 25000 compensation to affected complainant in response to the application made by the prosecution under section 17(4) of the Criminal Procedure Code No 15 of 1979. Accused Wasantha Weerasinghe Grama Niladari of Galwadugoda ,Galle.
A police sub inspector attached to Kahawata police station was convicted today by Hon. High Court Judge Mr.Vikum Kaluarachchi in Colombo High Court.
He was convicted for accepting and soliciting of a bribe of Rs.20000 from an illicit liquor dealer in order to retraining to file action against him.
The case was filled by CIABOC officer after the CIABOC Officers has conducted a raid.
CIABOC instituted action against the Chairman of Pradeshiya Sabha Kalutara - Luxman Widanapathirana for soliciting and accepting Rs. 3 million in order to grant approval to construct an entrance road to a land purchased by a witness of this case.The accused was taken into custody in a raid organised by CIABOC.
Ms. Dulani Amarasinghe, predecessor Judge of Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 02 years rigorous imprisonment suspending for 05 year to the former Divisional Secretary of Hingurakgoda on 01.02.2019 during a trial proceeded on an anonymous complaint received by CIABOC.
The Colombo High Court has convicted a Police Sargent attached to the Police Station – Gokarella on all 4 charges of the indictment served by the Bribery Commission against the accused for obtaining a bribe of Rs.5000.
An instructor of veterinary office of Maskeliya was convicted by the Colombo High Court for accepting Bribe of Rs.5000/-. Thereafter, High Court Judge Mr.Gihan Kulathunga sentenced Accused for three years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs.5000/- .
A Police Officer who has solicited Rs.3000.00 of bribe from a motorcyclist has been convicted and sentenced for 4 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.20,000.00
A fine of Rs.35 lacks has been imposed on a Marin Engineer in a case filed against him by the Bribery Commission on spending money exceeding his known income during the period from 31.03.2005 to 31.03.2006.
