THE COURT IMPOSED 03 YEARS IMPRISONMENT AND 03 LAKH FINE FOR FORMER SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT OF POLICE - MATALE IN A CORRUPTION CASE

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had filed a case in the Chief Magistrate’s Court – Colombo against the above accused for inducing Civil Defense Officers to attend the construction of his own house in Minuwangoda during the period from 1st of September 2007 to 9th of October 2007 by virtue of his office directly or indirectly being a public servant; serving as the Senior Superintendent of Police, Minuwangoda with the intent of causing wrongful or unlawful loss to the Government and with the knowledge that any wrongful or unlawful loss will be cased to the Government
The learned Magistrate after prolonged hearing has delivered the verdict on 2nd of July 2019. The accused convicted for 6 charges cited in the charge sheet.
1 year imprisonment was imposed for each convicted charge. 3 charges of the total of 6 were decided to be run concurrently. Accordingly, the total imprisonment period is 3 years.
Furthermore, a fine of Rs.300,000/- was imposed by Rs.50,000/- for each of 6 charges.
Assistant Director General, Mr. Asitha Anthony held the prosecution of this case. Mr. Lal Kularatne, AAL appeared for the accused.
