Appointment of Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed Mr. W. K. D. Wijeratne as the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, in accordance with the Anti-Corruption Act No. 09 of 2023.

On the recommendation of the Constitutional Council and after consulting the members of the Commission, Mr. W. K. D. Wijeratne has been appointed for the next five-year period in terms of Section 17(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act. The functions of the Director General include,

  • Institution of criminal proceeding on an indictment or charge sheet on the direction of the Commission.
  • Function as the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission.
  • Function as the Chief Accounting Officer of the Commission.
  • Carrying out all other duties and functions necessary to achieve the objectives of the Anti-Corruption Act.
