The Bribery and Corruption Prevention Programme, conducted for officers at the Wanduramba Divisional Secretariat, concluded successfully on 26 August 2025. The programme was held in their office auditorium, and over 120 officers attended it. Resource persons from the Commission, Ms. Nipuni Koshila Tennakoon (Prevention Officer) and Mrs. N. Vimuththi Jayasuriya (Prevention Officer), who educated the attendees, provided valuable insights into the consequences of bribery and corruption as well as measures to prevent them. They also explained the concept of Integrity and discussed the new Anti-Corruption Act. Lastly, they addressed the concerns attendees had regarding the issue.

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC arrested former Director General of the Urban Development Authority (UDA), Sampath Sumeda Pujitha Ratnayake (retired), and former Director (Lands) and Internal Assessment Committee Chairman (retired), Koswatta Liyanage Weerawansha Perera, over corruption allegations committed by causing a loss of Rs. 29,519,666.16 to the UDA during the leasing of a 55.5 perch land at Mayura Place, Colombo 05, belonging to UDA. The arrest was made on 11 th September 2025.

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC, on 10 th September 2025, arrested the former Mayor of Moratuwa Municipal Council, Wannakuwatta Saman Lal Fernando, over corruption allegations that were committed by awarding 112 Maga Neguma Urban Internal Road and Rural Road Development Projects in 2013 to 12 Community-based societies at his discretion, and by making the payments to parties who are not in the contract in violation of the Financial Regulations, and also by wrongfully and unlawfully interfering with the projects.

Another Bribery and Corruption Prevention Programme intended for officers of the Dangerous Drugs Control Board was successfully held on 6th August 2025, at their regional office in Galle. All officers attached to the regional office attended the programme. Prevention Officers of the Commission, Mrs. Chamodi Jayasinghe and Mrs. Eranga Madhushi, who educated the attendees, provided valuable insights into the consequences of bribery and corruption and instructed them on how to prevent these issues. They also discussed the new Anti-Corruption Act, with special emphasis on bribery, corruption, the illegal accumulation of assets, and the declaration of assets and liabilities. Additionally, they explained the Corruption Perception Index and the concept of Integrity.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, in collaboration with the Ceylon Electricity Board, conducts a series of Bribery and Corruption Prevention Programmes for its employees. Accordingly, a programme was conducted on 30 th and 31 st July 2025 for CEB officers of the Sabaragamuwa Province. It was held in the auditorium of the Education Centre at Pussella, and nearly 118 employees attended it.

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC arrested Dr. Ranasinghe Arachchige Nayanajith Hemantha Ranasinghe, the Acting Deputy Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, on 13 August 2025, on charges of bribery. In 2024, while serving as Deputy Director of Prison Health Services, the suspect has solicited a bribe of Rs. 1.5 million and accepted Rs. 300,000 from a prison inmate admitted to the prison hospital to keep him further hospitalised after discharge. Consequently, he was arrested at his residence in Pita Kotte.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted a Bribery and Corruption Prevention Programme for medical, nursing, paramedical and non-academic staff of the Apeksha Hospital on June 17, 2025. The programme was held in the hospital’s main auditorium.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted a Bribery and Corruption Prevention Programme for all the Principals in the Wattegama Educational Zone on July 24, 2025. The programme was held in the Kengalla Central College auditorium.

Another programme in the series of Bribery and Corruption Prevention Programmes arranged for CEB staff was conducted successfully on 15 July 2025.
The programme was held in the CEB auditorium in Battaramulla, and nearly 50 officers attended it.

Former MP of the Moneragala district, Shasheendra Rajapaksa, was arrested by the Commission’s Investigation Officers on 06th August, 2025.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption and the University Grants Commission had a special discussion for the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan on 26th June 2025 to discuss matters on educating and empowering the university community on combatting bribery and corruption and integrity. This fruitful discussion took place at the Mini Auditorium of the Commission.
