Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested an Inspector attached to the Puwarasankulama Police Station on 21st May 2025 over allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a resident of the Settikulama area. According to the complainant, the IP, also the OIC of the Police Station, has solicited and accepted a bribe of Rs. 500,000/- from the complainant to resolve a dispute regarding a land he has purchased. Accordingly, the IP was arrested inside the Puwarasankulama Police Station OIC’s office at around 5.25 p.m. yesterday.
Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested the Unit Manager of Mahaweli Authority’s Sandunpitiya Unit Management Office on 21st May 2025 over allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a resident of the Welikanda area. According to the complainant, the Mahaweli Authority has given him a 20-perch land from the Ethugala area to build a house under the Ranaviru Foundation. Since it is a marshy land, he has requested another one, and the said Unit Manager has solicited and accepted a bribe of Rs. 20,000/- from the complainant for facilitating him to get another land and the license. Accordingly, the Unit Manager was arrested inside the Sandunpitiya Unit Management Office.
Based on a complaint made by a female resident of Karadiyanaru, Investigation Officers of the Commission yesterday (29.04.2025) arrested the Public Health Inspector (PHI) attached to the Karadiyanaru PHI office while accepting a bribe at the complainant’s residence. According to the complainant, the PHI, having inspected the complainant’s house, which is under construction, has stated that it is an offence to carry out construction without an approved plan and will be fined Rs. 50,000 if legal action is taken. He has then solicited Rs. 12,000/- from the complainant, pledging not to take action against her. He has also promised the necessary arrangements for her to continue construction without any hindrance. He has further promised her to draw the plan and get the approval for it himself. Accordingly, he has initially accepted Rs. 5,000/- from the solicited amount, and the arrest was made while accepting Rs. 6,000/- of the remaining amount.
Based on a complaint made by a resident of Kantale, Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested a Senior Disciplinary Officer (Acting) and a Security Officer attached to the Sri Lanka Transport Board Eastern Province Regional Office over allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rupees One Hundred Thousand. The complainant, who was the conductor of a bus running on the Vavuniya- Trincomalee route, had been suspended from service for not issuing a ticket to a passenger and the Senior Disciplinary Officer has solicited and accepted the said bribe through a Security Officer in exchange for conducting the disciplinary inquiry against the complainant in a manner that does not cause any prejudice to him to ensure he is reinstated. Accordingly, the Senior Disciplinary Officer and the Security Officer were arrested at the SLTB Eastern Province Regional Office at 2.52 p.m. and 2.49 p.m. on 22nd April 2025.
Based on a complaint made by a businessman in the Kandy area, Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested the Quazi Judge of Gelioya over allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rupees Two Hundred Thousand. According to the complaint, the bribe was demanded to expedite and give the verdict of the divorce case of the complainant’s son on 19th April 2025 at the Quazi Court in the Kandy Court Complex, and issue a copy of the judgment and the divorce certificate.
Based on two investigations conducted in relation to two complaints received by the Commission (accepting bribes of Rs. 200,000 and Rs. 150,000 pledging government jobs), the Investigation Officers of the Commission yesterday (26.03.2025) arrested the former Opposition Leader (United National Party) of Central Provincial Council Mr. Don Harindra Chanaka Ilapperuma. The arrest was made in Kandy at 9.15 a.m.
Parliamentarian Don Arthur Chamara Sampath Dassanayake was arrested at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on 27th March 2025 in connection to the commission of acts of corruption by requesting sponsorships from three state banks for Provincial Council projects and crediting the funds into an account of a foundation operated in his name when he was the Chief Minister of Uva Province.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested Former Environment and Trade State Minister Sathasivam Viyalenderan yesterday (25.03.2025) on allegations of aiding and abetting two individuals to solicit a bribe of Rs. 2.0 million and accept Rs.1.5 million from an individual in exchange for making the necessary arrangements to issue him the requested Trade License.
Based on a complaint made by a traditional medical officer of Panamure, Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested three individuals who solicited Rs. 1.0 million from the complainant to arrange matters for her to get the Traditional Medical Certificate of the Ayurvedic Medical Council with the Commissioner’s knowledge. Accordingly, the officers arrested a resident of Kelaniya, a businessman of Pilimathalawa and an NGO Coordinator residing in Nawalapitiya on 22nd March 2025 at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel on allegations of accepting Rs. 500,000/- from the solicited amount and aiding and abetting the offence.
Based on a complaint made by a resident of Adippala, Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested a Police Constable of the Archchikattuwa Police Station on allegations of accepting Rs. 1,500/-, in exchange for issuing the Police Clearance Report to the complainant. The Constable has initially demanded Rs. 2,000/- and later brought it down to Rs. 1,500/-. The suspect was arrested at 3.55 p.m. on 14th March 2025 at Kaizer Bible Mosque premises, Bandarahena.
After an open investigation, the Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested two civilians on allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 505,000/- from the complainant and three other individuals, pledging to offer public sector jobs. The arrest was made in the Kuttigala Padalangala area at around 7.30 a.m. on 13th March 2025.
