According to a complaint made by a person in Katuwewa, Hambantota, Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested a Grama Niladhari at around 1452 hours on 31.01.2024.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption was so far entrusted with the authority of taking action against bribery and corruption only in the Public Sector. Superceding the said authority, Anti-Corruption Act No. 09 of 2023 has empowered the Commission with the authority of taking action against the bribery and corruption within the Private Sector as well. Accordingly, the first raid on a bribery incident in the Private Sector was conducted on January 26, 2024, with the approval of the Commission.

A meeting between the Commissioners of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption and the Acting IGP was held at the Commission premises on 17th January 2024. Several matters on improving the Investigation Division of the Commission were discussed at this meeting. Accordingly, matters on attaching Officers of Sri Lanka Police who are competent and experienced in investigation for vacancies at the Investigation Division of the Commission, and conducting investigations on money laundering and forensic analysis, the fields added to the Anti-Corruption Act, were given special focus. Further, matters in relation to providing subject-related knowledge required by the Investigation Officers of the Commission and handling joint invesitgations in terms of the new Act were discussed in detail.

On a complaint made by a person in Siyambalanduwa, Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested a Beat Forest Officer of Morana Beat Forest Office, Department of Wildlife Conservation on 09.11.2023 while accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000/-.

Former Sports Supervisor attached to the head office of Sri Lanka Transport Board was arrested by the Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs.80,000/-. The arrest was taken place on 05.10.2023 on a complaint received by the CIABOC.
