A Suspended Sentence of Two years and Fine Imposed on a Civil Person in Kuruwithenna

Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja sentenced a civil person in Kuruwithenna on 21.02.2024 after pleading guilty to the charge in case HCB 248/2023, which the Commission filed for offering a bribe of Rs. 5,000/-.

Accordingly, the learned Judge imposed a two-year rigorous imprisonment, suspended for 05 years, and ordered a fine of Rs. 5,000/- for each count, amounting to a total of Rs. 10,000/- with a 6-month simple imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

Mrs. Anuradha Siriwardene, Assistant Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, led the prosecution.
