System D of the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority (i.e., the Medirigiriya zone) organized a Renaissance Week under the Clean Sri Lanka National Programme themed “A Rich Country- A Beautiful Life”, and 03rd March 2025 of the week was named “The Productivity Day of Employees Who Line Up to Provide a Satisfactory Service” and was attended by nearly 100 employees of the System.

The Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested a Sergeant of the Hatton Police Station on allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe. According to the complainant, the Sergeant has initially demanded a bribe of Rs. 20,000 and reduced it to Rs. 15,000/- to get the complainant and his wife acquitted of the case pending against them at the Hatton Magistrate’s Court. The arrest was made at the Hatton Magistrate’s Court around 11.00 a.m. on 11th March 2025 while accepting the Rs. 15,000/-.

Based on a complaint made by a Sergeant of the Nikaweratiya Police Station, Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested two civilians at Dambadeniya and Allauwa on allegations of offering and aiding and abetting to offer a bribe of Rs. 20,000/-. According to the complainant, the two civilians offered the bribe requesting to name them as the witnesses instead as suspects of a cattle theft incident investigated by the Unresolved Crime Division of the Nikaweratiya Police Station. The two suspects were arrested at around 4.00 p.m. yesterday (06.03.2025), one inside a grocery store in front of the Police Station and the other near the main gate of the Police Station.

The final day of the Renaissance Week of Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority System G (i.e., the Moragahakanda zone) was named “The Productivity Day of Employees Who Line Up to Provide a Satisfactory Service” and was reserved for an awareness programme on bribery and corruption. The Renaissance Week started on 24th February 2025 ended on 02nd March and was organized under the Clean Sri Lanka National Programme, themed “A Rich Country- A Beautiful Life”. Around 120 employees of Mahaweli System G attended the awareness programme held in the Mahaweli Authority auditorium in Moragahakanda. As the resource persons of the programme, Prevention Officers of the Commission, Mr. Shammi Srilal and Mrs. Udeshika Jayasekara made the participants aware of the Repercussions of bribery and corruption, preventing bribery and corruption, the Concept of Integrity and the New Anti-Corruption Act. They also discussed the problems they have in that regard.

CIABOC conducts awareness programmes for public sector officers to create a clean public service, and on 24th February 2025, one such programme was conducted at the Matara Municipal Council for fifty Council Officers. The officers were made aware of the ill-effects of bribery and corruption, the legal situation with regard to bribery and corruption, standing against bribery as public sector employees, lodging complaints on bribery and corruption, and the measures that should be taken to eliminate bribery and corruption from Sri Lanka.

Based on a complaint made by a resident of Sitthandi, Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested a Development Officer of the Wandarumullai Agrarian Development Center on allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 40,000. According to the complainant, the Development Officer has told the complainant that the cultivation of the 3-acre paddy field that belongs to the complainant’s wife was damaged, and he himself has made arrangements to get compensation for crop damage. The officer has then demanded Rs. 50,000/- from the complainant to deposit the compensation into the complainant’s bank account. The officer was arrested at 9.44 a.m. on 5th March 2025 in front of Chenkaladi Bank of Ceylon while accepting Rs. 40,000/- from the solicited amount.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption prosecuted a Chief Inspector of the Airport Police who solicited and accepted Rs. 2,500,000 from a resident of New Hettiweediya, Colombo. The bribe was solicited to abstain from taking legal action against the complainant after finding 10 gold chains he had brought to Sri Lanka from outside. The gold chains weighed approximately 1 kilogram and were valued at about fifteen million rupees.

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) hosted its inaugural anti-corruption awareness session as part of a new educational initiative at its headquarters in Colombo. The event, held on March 4, aimed to educate executive officers of the state-owned transportation provider on ethical governance.

On February 18, 2025, David Pieris group of companies in collaboration with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), successfully conducted a corruption prevention program for the Senior Executive Officers of the David Pieris group of companies. The program, held at the David Pieris Motor Company (Pvt) Ltd, Bandaragama.

In a significant move to strengthen governance and transparency, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), in collaboration with the Secretariat to the President, held a consultation session with public officials to introduce the National Anti-Corruption Integrity Assessment Framework and establish Internal Affairs Units (IAUs) across all government institutions. The session aimed to sensitize public officials and gather their feedback to refine the framework for effective implementation.

His Excellency Akio Isomata, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, along with his team, paid a courtesy call on Justice W.M.N.P. Iddawala, Chairman of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), today, Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the CIABOC office in Colombo. The meeting, which began at 11:00 AM, centered on discussing the ongoing and future cooperation between the Japanese government and Sri Lanka’s anti-corruption efforts..

Gode Vithanage Anusha Sanjeewanie Senanayake was sentenced for the charges of offering one hundred and fifty thousand rupees to a Chief Inspector (CI) of the Awissavella Police Station (Complainant) as an inducement for filing the case against her for the offence of keeping cannabis instead of smuggling them. The case was filed under case No. HCB 290/24.
