Today High Court Judge Mrs. Champa Rajarathnam sentenced A.T.M. Aris & M.A. Mohideen for 2 years Rigorous Imprisonment suspended it for 20 years & a fine of Rs. 10,000/- for each accused over bribery charges which were levelled against them for conspiring to offer Rs. 4Mn & for offering Rs. 1.5Mn to Roshan Sanjeewa then OIC attached to Sapugaskanda Police. Both accused pleaded guilty.
Further Prosecuting Counsel Mr. Asitha Anthony, Assistant Director General made an application to court under section 77 of the Criminal Procedure Code to confiscate Rs. 1.5 Mn which was used for this bribery incident & accordingly High Court Judge made an order to confiscate Rs. 1.5Mn.
The Bribery Commission had filed an indictment in the High Court of Colombo under case bearing No. 2158/16 against the former Deputy Chairman of the Wattala Urban Council & 2 others. 1st Accused Thahir Mohameed Rishan was charged for conspiring to offer Rs. 4Mn & attempting to offer Rs. 4Mn to Roshan Sanjeewa then OIC attached to Sapugaskanda Police
