Experts debate on ways to ensure independence of anti-corruption agencies

Following a successful day of discussions yesterday, day two of the Global Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the Jakarta Principles began this morning at the Taj Samudra.

Experts from around the world are meeting to adopt the Colombo commentary (COCO) which will provide further guidance and clarity on the Jakarta Principles in order to strengthen the independence of national anti-corruption authorities. The day saw lively debates on the principles relating to the mandate, appointment, permanence, removal, continuity, collaboration, ethical conduct, and immunity of anti-corruption agencies necessary to achieve effective independence.

Best practices from different countries as well as the disadvantages of certain practices were considered during the sessions before agreeing on the text of the commentary. Tomorrow will see the conclusion of the EGM after 3 days of exciting discussions, debates, and agreements.
