Three Police Officers attached to the Galenbidunuwewa Police Station were convicted for all charges by Hon. High Court Judge Mr.Sampath Wijerathne for soliciting a bribe of Rs.20000/- and accepting of a bribe of Rs.10000/- from the complainant who was an illicit brewer in order to refrain from filing an action against him.
This case was based on a raid conducted by the officers of CIABOC.
The counsel appeared for the prosecution stated that accused should be imposed severe punishment as they had breached confidence and the trust of the entire society. Moreover, stated that the legislature has stipulated such punishments in order to uphold the integrity of the public service.
