Preliminary objection of former CEA Chairman arrested on allegations of accepting bribe dismissed without taking up for hearing

The preliminary objection filed by the former Central Environment Authority Chairman challenging his arrest was dismissed on 20.02.2024 by the Supreme Court without even taking it up for hearing.

The Commission arrested him on allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 10 million during a raid the Commission conducted on 10.11.2023.

The objection filed under case number 295/23 named former Commission Members, present Commission members, Attorney General, Inspector General of Police, Secretary of the Commission, two Investigation Officers of the Commission and the OIC of Kurunduwatta Police Station as Respondents.

Senior State Counsel Shaminda Wickrama, Mrs. Disna Gurusinghe, Assistant Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, and Mrs. Ama Wijesinghe, Assistant Director (Legal), appeared on behalf of the respondents.
