Five-year suspended imprisonment and fine imposed on Grama Niladhari convicted of bribery

Colombo High Court Judge sentenced a Grama Niladhari in Kolonnawa on 26.02.2024 after pleading guilty to the charges Commission filed against him for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000/.

Accordingly, the learned Judge sentenced a five-year imprisonment for each of the 04 charges to run concurrently and suspended for 10 years. Further, a fine of Rs. five thousand (Rs. 5000/-) was imposed for each count, amounting to a total of Rs. Twenty Thousand (Rs. 20,000/-), and ordered a penalty of Rs. 5000/. under Section 26 of the Bribery Act, No. 11 of 1954.
