Imposement of a 28 Year Rigorous Imprisonment for a Sub Inspector and a 21 Year Rigorous Imprisonment for a Police Constable of Aralaganwila Police Station

A Sub Inspector and a Police Constable of Aralaganwila Police Station were convicted for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000/- from a Hotel Owner at Aralaganwila in 2009 to avoid taking legal actions for the offence of keeping elk flesh illegally.

he Learned Judge Hon. Mr. Shashi Mahendran of Colombo High Court No 2, delivered the judgment on 9th January 2019 imposing a rigorous imprisonment of 7 years and a fine of Rs.5,000/- for each of the four charges leveled against the alleged Sub Inspector. The alleged Police Constable was imposed with a 7 year rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs.5000/- for each of the three charges charged against him.
Cumulatively, a rigorous imprisonment of 28 years and a fine of Rs.20,000/- for the Sub Inspector and a rigorous imprisonment of 21 years along with a fine of Rs.15,000/- for the Police Constable were inflicted by the Colombo High Court.
The Prosecution of this case was handled by the Assistant Director Mr. Sakitha Wickramarathne.
