16 years imprisonment imposed on Agriculture Development Officer & 04 years imprisonment imposed on Clerk of Addalachchenai Agrarian Development Centre.

The Hon. Judge of the Colombo High Court, Mr. Gihan Kulathunga convicted the former Agrarian Development officer of Addalachchenai Agrarian Development Centre Abdul Latheef Abdul Gani and his Clerk Sulaimanlebbe Munas on 19.09.2019, the first accused of the indictment served by the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. He was convicted for the 04 counts of the indictment and imposed 16 years of rigorous imprisonment as he was sentenced to 4 years for each count convicted. Furthermore, a fine of Rs.20, 000/- was imposed as Rs.5,000/- per each count carrying with a default sentence of 1 year rigorous imprisonment. He was further ordered to pay a compensation of Rs.50, 000/- to the complainant carrying with a default sentence of 2 years rigorous imprisonment. Further Hon. High Court Judge ordered 1st Accused to pay a fine of Rs. 8000.00 under section 26 of the Bribery Act.


Further, aiding and abetting 2nd accused Sulaimn Lebbe Munas was convicted for the 02 counts of the indictment and imposed 04 years of rigorous imprisonment as he was sentenced to 02 years for each count convicted. Hon Judge ordered period of imprisonment run concurrently.

This was a case instituted by the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against the former Agrarian Development officer of Addalachchenai Agrarian Development Centre Abdul Latheef Abdul Gani and second accused Clerk Sulaiman Lebbe Munas of Agrarian Development Centre.
The 1st accused of this case has solicited a bribe of Rs.8000.00 from the complainant Mohammed Ajman in order to change the name of his paddy land and has obtained a sum of Rs. through the 2nd accused. The prosecution of this case was led by Mr. Saldeen Mohammed Sabry Assistant Director Legal of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
