A Complaint by Mr Anura Bandaranayake to Bribery Commission / Evidence by Minister Ravi Karunanayake in the Court / Court sentenced Imprisonment to the Acting General Manager of Sathosa

Having received a complaint to the Bribery Commission by late Mr. Anura Bandaranayake, Bribery Commission conducted investigation and file action in the Court of Law accusing then Acting General Manager Mr. Wimal Perera of CWE (Sathosa) for the offence of Corruption.


Wimal Perera had been accused of ordering to sell 1000 Metric Tons of Imported Rice at the rate of Rs. 17.50 per kg which is lower than the selling rate and thereby causing a loss of Rs 4 Million to the state-owned retailer Sathosa.

The Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne sentenced former Sathosa General Manager Wimal Perera to a year of imprisonment after being convicted of corruption under section 70 of the Bribery Act today. Further accused was ordered to pay a fine of Rs 50,000/- over the offence failing which he would be sentenced to an additional six months in prison.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant Director General Asitha Anthony of the Bribery Commission & President Counsel Shanaka Ranasinghe appeared for the accused.
