A Grama Niladari has been sentenced for Rigorous Imprisonment for Rs. 450000/- bribery.

A Grama Nildari who has solicited and accepted Rs.450000 of bribe from a civilian has been convicted and sentenced for 2 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10,000.00


Accused has solicited and accepted Rs.450000.00 bribe from a civilian to admit his grandchild to the Richmond College Galle.
Based on a complaint made to the CIABOC on February 2017, investigation carried out and action filed against the Accused on November 2018
At the 1st day of trial, Accuse pleaded guilty for the charges against him where Learned High Court Judge, Mr. Gihan Kulathunga, convicted the Accused.
Having consider the factual circumstances Learned High Court Judge had suspended the sentence for 10 years.
Investigation was conducted by the authorized investigator of CIABOC SI Kalansooriya under the guidance and instructions of Director Investigations SSP Priyantha Chandrasiri and Prosecution was conducted by the Assistant Director (Legal) Attorney-at-Law Ms. Manodhi Hewawasam under the guidance of Commission and DG CIABOC –Mr. Sarath Jayamanne, President’s Counsel.
