Sanitary Labourer at Polonnaruwa Provincial Revenue District Office arrested over allegations of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 and accepting Rs. 35,000

Following a complaint lodged by a resident of Polonnaruwa, Investigation Officers of the Commission arrested Sanitary Labourer Ediriweera Arukattu Patabendige Sumith Indika Kumara of the Polonnaruwa Provincial Revenue District Office. The suspect solicited a bribe of Rs. 50,000 and accepted Rs. 35,000 from the complainant to arrange the undervaluation and issuance of a valuation report for the plot of land his cousin had received from the government. The undervaluation was carried out to reduce the stamp duty payable on the deed when transferring the land to the complainant. Accordingly, the suspect was arrested at the District Revenue Office at around 9.27 a.m. on 13 May 2026.
