Deputy Commissioner of the IRD Jawatta City Branch, K. C. K. Kumara, was arrested by the Commission’s Investigation Officers on 7 th July 2025 for accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from a businessman in Piliyandala. The arrest was made based on a complaint lodged by the businessman. According to him, he requested the Tax Clearance Report for 2025 for an institution he operates in Dematagoda, and the said Deputy Commissioner, informing him of tax arrears of Rs. 1,100,000, demanded Rs. 100,000 as a bribe to issue the Tax Clearance Report for 2025, removing the arrears. The bribe amount was subsequently reduced to Rs. 50,000, and on 3 rd July, he accepted Rs. 42,000 from it. The arrest took place at the said IRD office while receiving the balance of Rs. 8,000.
