On 12 November 2025, the Commission arrested former Minister of Tourism and Aviation Services, Prasanna Ranatunge, on suspicion of committing an offence punishable under Section 70 of the Bribery Act. In the year 2021, the Ministry of Tourism has obtained direct medical insurance coverage for employees of the institutions under the Ministry - namely, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, the Sri Lanka Institute of Hotel Management, and the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau- from the state-owned Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation, and, although it had been possible to obtain such insurance coverage directly from the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation without the payment of any commission, the former Minister engaged the services of an insurance brokerage company, My Insurance Brokers, and caused the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation to pay Rs. Rs. 4,750,828.72 to the brokerage company - a payment which ought not to have been made - thereby conferred an undue benefit on the said brokerage company and caused an equivalent loss to Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation.
