Two persons were arrested on accepting a bribe of Rs.150,000/-

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested the Chief Clerk of the Divisional Secretariat, Eravur Pattu, Chenkalady and the Coordinating Secretary of a former State Minister on alleged soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 150,000/= on 21.06.2022 in accordance with a complaint received by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The complainant had purchased lands belong to the DS division of the Divisional Secretariat, Eravur Pattu, Chenkalady and he sold plots of the said land. The above suspects had requested Rs.2,000,000/= and then deducted the said amount to Rs.1,50,000/= in order to sell the remaining plots of the afore mentioned land without any hindrance, to carry out necessary actions on behalf of the land owners who have already purchased the land plots, to get the necessary work done through the superior officers of the Pradeshiya Sabha to sell lands as plots for which land development process is required and to perform all the necessary actions through Pradeshiya Sabha required for the selling process of auctioned lands supposed to be purchased in future. The above suspects were thus arrested when they solicited and accepted the said bribe of Rs.150,000/= at Ibrahim Hotel, Batticaloa.
