CIABOC and Sri Lanka Police Hold Anti-Corruption Training of Trainers (TOT) Programme for Police Officers

Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and Sri Lanka Police jointly conducted a Training of Trainers (TOT) programme for 100 selected police officers on 17 and 19 March, at the National Police Academy, Katana.

The programme was initiated by Sri Lanka Police, with CIABOC providing the resources, training materials, and coordination framework.

Sessions focused on how bribery has become normalized in everyday public interactions, and explored ways to prevent it through community policing strategies already in place. Participants emphasized the importance of public involvement as a key part of a wider whole-of-society approach to fighting corruption.

Trainers also examined ongoing systemic issues and highlighted solutions available under the prevention provisions of the Anti-Corruption Act (Sections 35–40).

CIABOC was represented by two officers who brought specialist knowledge to the programme. Prosecutor and Assistant Director (Legal) Mrs Bakthi Chethana Karunananda led sessions using real case studies and practical scenarios to illustrate how corruption occurs and is prosecuted. Corruption Prevention Officer Mr Shilamega Welithotage addressed both cultural and systemic approaches to reducing ongoing irregularities within public institutions.

The two-day programme was hosted by Sri Lanka Police at the National Police Academy, Thimbirigaskatuwa Road, Katana.
